This lovely mare boasts exceptional bloodlines, with the beauty and sweetness to match.

She is named for the Greek maiden, Psyche (sī'kē), whose beauty was so extraordinary that she was worshipped as a goddess.  Consumed with jealousy, the goddess of love, Aphrodite, commanded her son, Eros, to cause Psyche to fall in love with a hideous monster, but when he saw her, Eros himself was smitten with love and, taking Psyche to himself, hid her away from his mother.

Psyche was persuaded by her two jealous sisters to verify Eros’ identity, for which she was condemned to exile until she fulfilled several impossible tasks set to her by Aphrodite.  Eros pleaded with Zeus on Psyche’s behalf, Aphrodite was persuaded to reconcile, and Psyche was welcomed into the realm of immortals.
